About Leipzig, Germany
Leipzig is a beautiful city in eastern Germany, formerly part of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). It holds significant historical weight and is home to 635,000 residents. The population is young, and Leipzig has one of the highest birth rates in Germany, contributing to its rapid growth. The former GDR had a profound impact on the city's spiritual landscape, and atheism and communism have left their mark on the culture. Suspicion toward religion is widespread, and many people struggle with the concept, though they tend to be very open-minded in other areas.
Leipzig Projekt
Leipzig Projekt is a church plant located in West Leipzig, seeking to reach the city with the good news of the gospel. With the gospel of Jesus at the center, they long to create a space where those who may be resistant to religion can experience the love and grace of God in Christ. The church primarily focuses on seven neighborhoods in the surrounding area, with 90% of its 80 members living within a two-mile radius.
Vision
This trip will serve two main goals:
- To aid Leipzig Projekt in hosting a neighborhood Fall Festival.
- To visit and encourage Midtown Sent Ones and Leipzig Projekt church members.
As a part of this team, you will experience the unique culture of this German city and gain a deeper understanding of its current social and spiritual landscape. You will participate in the local church's outreach through the Fall Festival and be ready to step in and help wherever needed. There will be ample opportunities to connect relationally with our Midtown Sent Ones—Friedrich & Mary Ellen Honay and Sarah Hodges—as well as their fellow church members. This will provide space to encourage them in their faith, affirm their calling to reach the people of Leipzig, and pray with them.
Logistics
The cost of this trip is $2,650, which includes flights, transportation, lodging, food, and travel insurance. Participants will receive training and support to help them fundraise leading up to the trip.
